Review: The Day Santa Stopped Believing in Harold

I would like to thank Tundra Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

This book is written by Maureen Fergus, and illustrated by Cale Atkinson.

I thoroughly enjoyed this children’s Christmas book about Santa losing his belief in a child named Harold. Because of the subject matter, I feel this would be an ideal book for older children who are coming home from school (or just starting at home) questioning whether or not Santa is real.

I love the illustrations in this book, which are entertaining, and thoroughly filled with Christmas spirit. The Santa in this book is (literally) round and, while not the jolliest of Santas the whole way through, still fits with my idea of Santa. And Harold definitely represents kids everywhere, I think.

This is a book that doesn’t talk down to kids, but gets on their level and really tells a story that I think is good to keep that belief in Santa Clause alive…to keep that Christmas magic alive. I think this is a sophisticated book for today’s sophisticated kids.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I am never compensated monetarily for my reviews.
