Girl Waits With Gun has been on my bookish radar for a while now…since I saw it and its sequels at one of my local public libraries. But, at the time I wasn’t looking at add YET ANOTHER series to my long list of series being read, so I mentally filed it away, but passed on it, planning to get to it eventually.
Then, I saw a post from my local library that later this year the author is having a couple of events in my area, and so I decided to get a start on reading it as soon as possible. Luckily, when I was at a different branch of my local library last week, I found they had multiple copies of Girl Waits With Gun just waiting to be snapped up and enjoyed. Of course, I couldn’t resist, and now here we are.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book…as evidenced by the 5 out of 5-star rating I gave it. I’ve been increasingly more frugal with my 5-star ratings lately, so books really have to wow me to receive them. And this one wowed me. The Kopp sisters, Constance, Norma, and Fleurette really came to life for me, as did the other characters who were introduced in this first book.
What’s even more exciting about this book though, is that these ladies really existed. Amy Stewart researched their lives and included parts of real news articles about them and from their area in the book. There is much that is fictionalized, partly due to only SO much information being available, but I still enjoyed this introduction to the Kopp sisters very much.
I find it really exciting that these women really existed and that Ms. Stewart has taken it upon herself to write this series about them. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next books in this series, including the 4th book, which is due out in September of this year.
